BOYLE'S LAW

he described the inverse relationship between the volume of a gas and its pressure – now known as Boyle’s Law,published in 1662

-Robert Boyle (1627-1691).-Robert Boyle was born in Lismore, Co.-During his tour of Europe,Boyle experienced a thunderstorm which had the effect of a religious conversion experience. Boyle thought he was going to die and felt very ill-prepared to meet his Maker.

Boyle was a founder of the Royal Society of London for the Improvement of Natural Knowledge in 1660. His work in chemistry was aimed at establishing it as a mathematical science based on a theory of matter. In 1680, Robert was elected president of the Society but he declined it because of conflicts between the oath of the office and his religious beliefs

Robert Boyle found Robert Hooke (1635-1703). He entered Boyle’s employ at this time and helped him in his experiments. They built the air-pump used to create vacuums and with which Boyle carried out many trials to evaluate the nature and importance of air(.1659)
