Robert Ballard discovered that the oceans of earth are round through the earth's crust and that its minerals change. Another discovery of his is of hydro thermal vents and the early use of deep diving submarines

Robert Ballard worked to improve submersible vehicles, and in result found the lost shipwreck of the Titanic in 1985, he received lots of recognition for this find and the images and videos he got were shown on National Geographic. Robert Ballard had gotten lots of letters from children about how they loved the footage and how they were interested in the ship wreck. These kids inspired him to start the Jason Project.

The JASON Project is a project that allows kids to watch live video of Robert Ballard on his deep sea explorations and also help them learn more about the ocean.
