Rig Vedafirst of the Vedas

Hymns focus on pleasing main gods Indra (war, wind and rain), Agni (the sacrificial fire), Surga (the sun) and Varuna (the cosmic order) through ritual sacrifices. Along with governing important matters of life such as rain, wind, fire and war, they forgive wrongdoings.

Aryan invasion

In Vedic times, Aryan missionaries would travel into Indian lands, converting commoners and even leaders to the faith of Agni and Soma.

The Vedas were first composed sometime around 1500-1000 BCE in the north-western region of the Indian subcontinent - present day Pakistan and northwest India - and they were transmitted orally over many generations before eventually being committed to writing.

The Vedas have a strong priestly bias, as the brahmans had the monopoly in the edition and transmission of these texts.

The Indus Valley civilization, one of the oldest in the world, dates back at least 10,000 years.Oldest book in Sanscrit.

In the Rigveda, Rudra has been praised as the "mightiest of the mighty".

Rig Veda is composed of ten books, or Mandalas, which further contain 1,017 hymns used by the Hotri priests.

All other gods are different aspects or manifestations of Agni

Agni is the first word of the first hymn of the Rig Veda अग्नि॒म् ई॑ळे पुरो॒हि॑तं यज्ञ॒स्य॑ देव॒म् ऋत्वि॒ज॑म् ।होता॑रं रत्नधा॒त॑मम् ॥Rig Veda begins with a prayer to Agni, the receiver, holder and distributor of energy, who leads the devis to victory in their battles against the asuras

Rig Veda shows the progress in the concept of God.

Agni called – जातवेदसम् meaning - the one who knows all things that are born, created or produced

Deceased ancestors are able to influence the living, so they are also appeased with rituals.The afterlife is eternal conscious survival in the homeof Yama, the god of the dead.It is the gods, not karma, that are responsible for assuring justice in this life and the next .

Agni is the supreme director of religious ceremonies and duties, and figures as messenger between mortals and gods.Vedic rituals all involve Agni. For example, the elaborate Agnicayana , which is the piling of the fire-altar usually in the shape of a shyena, and the Agnihotra , which is making offerings to Agni.

"Three thousand three hundred and thirty-nine divinities have worshipped Agni; they have sprinkled him with melted butter, they have spread for him the sacred grass, and have seated him upon it as their ministrant priest" (8).

Rig Veda: Rig,Sma,Yajur, Atharva: Believed to have been heard by ancient sages when they were in deeply meditative states.Passed down through generations through oral teachings.Each Veda has 4 parts: 1. mantra/hymn selection (samhita) 2. ritualistic teachings (brahma) 3. theological sections (aranyaka) 4. Philosophical section (upanishad). Upanishads brought out the spiritual meanings of the Vedic texts.
