Rig Veda

The most sacred scriptures of Hinduism are the Vedas ("Books of Knowledge"), a collection of texts written in Sanskrit from 1200 BCE to 100 CE. The Vedas consisted of four collections of mantras. Rig Veda(Verses); Sama Veda (Chants); Yajur Veda (Sacrificial Formulas); and Atharva Veda (Atharvan Priests).Brahmanas (discussions of the ritual); Aranyakas ("books studied in the forest"); and Upanishads (philosophical writings) were added a few centuries later

Vedics believe in gods Indra (war, wind and rain), Agni (the sacrificial fire), Surga (the sun) and Varuna (the cosmic order). Along with governing important matters of life such as rain, wind, fire and war. They also believe that deseased beings can influence the living. Vedics also believe in both a promise land and darkness where death reigns.
