In 1586 he went to New Spain(Mexico). Spain sponsered.

Sebastian Vizcaino made several trip between New Spain and Manila in the Philippines to trade silver and gold.

Vizcaino explored California in 1602-1603. He sailed from Acapulico in New Spain on May 5, 1602, with about 200 people and three small ships. Counting northward, Vizcaino named Santa Catalina Island, San Pedro, Santa barbara, Point Conception, the Santa Lucia Mountains, Carmel Bay, and the Carmel River. Many of his crew got sick so he sent one ship back to New Spain. Of the 34 man on board, only nine were alive when it reached Acapulico. The other two ships continued sailing north along the coast as far as Cape Mendocino.

This is a flag of Spain.
