Remembering Anne Frank

ThemeMiep Gies' Autobiography describes lives in opression, acts of generosity and greed during WWll

The clock's signal of every 15 minutes passed relives everyone that the day is almost complete and they're living.

I chose the Westertoren Clock because it represents the fear of not knowing how long the Frank family can hide.

Miep Gies contibuted to the hiding of Anne's family and friends. She is brave, strong, and a person to trust. She never turned them in, and kept them safe. She is always willing to help, and make feel Anne feel happy.

Remembering Anne Frank by Miep Gies

June 12, 1942–August 1, 1944Amsterdam, the Netherlands

"...people helped to hide Jews and others in need of hiding during those years. I willingly did what I could to help. My husband did as well. It was not enough." Miep Gies, pg 11.~This shows how even though they hid them, the Frank family and others got caught. "I was only willing to do what was asked of me and what seemed necessary at the time." Miep, pg 11.~Miep tries to tell the reader she is not a hero, but did what was right. "She was no longer gone and destroyed. She was alive again in my mind." Miep, pg 246.~Miep tell the story of Anne so that she isnt forgotten and keep the memory of her alive.

Miep uses Dramatic Irony, like when the reader has knowlege of something some characters might not, to make the reader understand how horrifying it must have been to not know you're about to be taken away by the gestapo and possibly killed. When Anne, her family, and friends were in hiding on, Aug 4, 1944, they were suddenly betrayed and the police were coming to take them away. Miep Knew they were there, but the poeple in hiding didnt. This shows how tragic the end was, but emphasizes the importance of the memory of the Frank family.
