Reggio Emilia Curriculum(1940s-Now)

Their Philosophy:There are five major roles reflected throughout this approach: the child, the teacher, documentation, unset curriculum, and the environment. They believe that nature should be incorporated as much as possible. This approach reflects four major core values that are introduced below.

Four Core Values:

The child as an active participant in learning:-Researchers-Individuals with own thoughts, emotions, and expressions.-allowed to follow their own interests-A child is seen as a "very competent protagonist and intiator"

The significane of the Environment:-incoporate nature into the environment as much as possible-viewed as a "third educator" to students-Most reggio classrooms contain a studio where children can represent concepts in a hands on way.

The teacher, parent and child as collaborators in process of learning:-views parents as "essential resource for child's learning"-fostering a community is extremely important-Reggio schools host various events for parents throughout the school year

Making learning visible:-student's artwork, products, and creations displayed throughout the classroom and school.-use of variety of documentation techniques like cameras and videotapes.-very important to track student's throughts and ideas-can also use individual portfolios
