Red Jacket
Sagoyewatha (Red Jacket as the Americans called him) had mixed feelings about the white settlers. As a Native American leader, he did not want to give up his land, but he still wanted to cooperate and make peace with the Americans.
This "Peace Speech" told the whites that this land was made for the Indians, and they were not going to give up anymore land. Also, they are dissapointed that they belived the whites, and thought they would keep there promises, though they have only caused more catastrophies.
Of one of the few Iroquios who did not move to Canada after the Revolutionary War, Red Jacket was forced to sign a treedy that gave the whites a majority of the Native's land, and were nearly forced into christianity. That took it too far. As a leader, Red Jacket strongly, but firmlly told the whites what he thought about this encroachment. This was like a "peace speech".

Their relationship with the US government changed over time. In the beginning they had an ok relationship. After the war, their relationship worsened.
