Wisconsin vs. YoderMembers of the Amish church were prosecuted under a Wisconsin law that required all children to attend school unitl the age of sixteen. The amish parents refused to send their children to school past the eighth grade because they believed it was agianst their religious beliefs.

Wisconsin vs. Yoder

What happened

The court decided that the parents interests in the exercise of their religion under the First Amendment outweighed the State's interests in compelling school attendance beyond the eighth grade

They decided that the state law was directly agianst their religious beliefs and one or two years short of the regular schooling would not harm the children.

The amish parents got their way with the court due to the rights stated in the first amendment.
