Reasons We Won the War

.. or how the underdogs took the cake

The Americans used something called the Guerrilla tactic which wich they learned during the Indian Wars. The Militia men struck quickly often behind trees or fences, then dissapered into the forest. They also wore ordiany clothes which made it difficult to distinguish Rebels and Loyalist.

The British commanders did not trust the Loyalist or respect their fighting ability. As a result the British alienated many political supporters.

Washington's strategy of avoding large-scale confrontations made it impossible forthe British to deliver a knock-out blow to the rebles.

Lots of slaves about 800 joined Lord Dunmore's forces becuase they were promised freedom but the threats of slave emancipation led to many Southern slaveholders to support the Partriot cause.

Probably the most important cause for the Patroit victroy was breadth of popular support for the revolution. It was the participation ordinary farmers, artisians, and laborers that helped us to win the war.
