ǁReading does not only provide students with the knowledge of good vocabulary but also enables them to learn more about the world around them. They learn about people, places and events outside their own experience. They are exposed to ways of life, ideas and beliefs about the world which may be different from those which surround them.
7.5% of Singaporeans above the age of fifteen years old are unable to read and write.

There had been a sharp decline in the popularity of reading amongst teenagers. This puts these teenagers at a severe disadvantage from acquiring the skills and benefits of reading.
What are some of the benefits that students will reap from reading?

Reading a book reduces stress, and is able to put them in a better mood. they can escape from the worries and stresses of the everyday world and spend a while exploring the domain of the author’s imagination.
There is a strong correlation between reading and academic success. A student who is a good reader is more likely to do well in school and pass exams than a student who is a weak reader.
An exposure of a wide variety of books should be exposed to students in order for them to develop a sense of liking to at least one type of genre in order for reading to be a habit and second nature to students.
