Rainforest

Above: map of tropical ranforests

Tropical rainforests typically are found near the equator and receive anywhere from 66 inches to 390 inches per year. Approx. 40% to 75% of all biotic species are indigenous to the rainforests. It has been estimated that there may be many millions of species of plants, insects and microorganisms still undiscovered in tropical rainforests.

The rainforest is divided into four different layers. The four layers are Emergent layer, the canopy, the understory, and the forest floor.

Pictured here is the largest rainforest, the Amazon.

The amazon rainforest is home to many endangered animals, like the toucan. Many of these species have lived in the forest for 70,000 years
