The climate is very humid, there is lots of rain, and rainforests are very close to the equator. The temperature rarely gets over 93*F and rarely drops below 68*F.

In the moist rainforests of South America, sloths move so slowly that algae are able to grow in their fur. Giant bamboo plants can grow up to 9 inches a day. 80% of the flowers in the rainforests are not found anywhere else in the world.

There are many animals in the rainforest. Some typical ones are butterflies, spiders, snakes, parrots. There is actually a parrot called the Rainforest Parrot that is a plant and meat eater. One of the largest butterflies in the world lives in the rainforest. It is called the Blue Morpho Butterfly.

Some plants that grow in the rainforest are vines, bromeliads, the passion fruit plant& the Victorian water lily. You will find the vines growing up and around trees. The passion fruit has parts in its center that produces nectar. Bromeliads have short, spiny leaves.
