Railroads
-building of railroads set city boundaries-people no longer lived within walking distance of their jobs and therefore would take the train to work
Urbanization
-the building of homes (towns) and railroads increased jobs that brought in immigrants-they would migrate West and form new immigrant settlements in Western states and territories
Immigration
-idea of Transcontinental railroad was to link East & West-provided money in form of loans & made grants, giving builders wide stretches of land-The railroad tied products and people & spurred industrial development-stimulated growth of cities and towns-railroads intensified the demand for Indian's land and brought Whites who overwhelmed Mexican-American communities in the Southwest
Transformation
-helped export and import goods-movement of more people westward faster-gave manufacturers cheap way to transport goods-refrigerator trains helped transport foods so they wouldn't spoil-cut time from Midwest to West from 3 months to 1 week-growth of cities and America's boarders= NO WORRIES!
