The modern radio was invented in the 1920's by Fessenden and Lee de Forester, after the discovery of the radio wave in the 1890's. The crystal set radio was the first to broadcast to the public. By 1920 several countries had local broadcasting to the public. These broadcasts included news and entertainment. KDKA in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which in October 1920 received its license and went on the air as the first US licensed commercial broadcasting station on November 2, 1920 with the presidential election results as its inaugural show
