Guglielmo Marconi was awarded the Nobel Prize in physics in 1909. Also they used Marconi's telegraph on the Titanic. If it weren’t for Marconi many lives could have been lost when the titanic sunk.
Guglielmo Marconi was born on April 25, 1874 in Bologna, Italy. His father was Italian and his mother was Irish. He was educated privately and then went to Livorno Technical Institute. During his time there he came a crossed an article stating the possibility of using radio waves to communicate to others without using any wires. And that inspired him to create radio waves without wires.
Guglielmo Marconi transmitted the first Radio signal in 1901. It travled from Poldhu, Cornwall to St. John's, Newfoundland.It travled a distance of 2100 miles acrossed the atlantic.
