QUADRATIC FUNCTIONS

max: when the "U" is pointing downwards the "a" number is negativemin: when the "U" is pointing upwards the "a" number is positive

y=x^2+4x-7

y=-x^2-2x+6

vertex: (-2, -11)aos: -2solutions: (-5.3, 0) (1.3, 0)y intercept: -11range: -11domain: all real #s

vertex: (-1, 7)aos: -1solutions: (-3.6, 0) (1.6, 0)y intercept: 7range: 7domain: all real #

the aos is always the x coordinate of the vertex

to find the vertex you must graph the quadratic equation and then find the lowest point (if it's a min) or find the highest point (if it's a max)

to solve a quadratic equation you take your intercepts and foil them.ex: (2x+4)(5x+3)the factored answer would be 10x^2+26x+12

Mountains and hills are real world parabolas. They both have vertexs, aos', etc. Without having that they wouldnt be able to stand on their own.
