Religious Beliefs/Rituals The Puritans believed that God had formed a unique covenant, or agreement, with them. They believed that God expected them to live according to the Scriptures, to reform the Anglican Church, and to set a good example that would cause those who had remained in England to change their sinful ways.

FUN FACTS Those Colonial kids used wheat or the sticky resin from fresh cut spruce trees for chewing gum. The gluten in the wheat becomes gummy when it is chewed.the kids were given their first real pair of shoes when they were 5 or 6 years old. Until then they were barefoot or wore slippers.

Daily life activitiesMen had to plant crops, build fences, and butcher livestock.Women had to prepare food, garden, smoke meat, sew, and clean.

Family The family was very important to the Puritans and most were farming families. The average Puritans lived longer than their counterparts in England, and many lived long enough to be grandparents, which was not common. Many kept journals of their daily lives.
