1890's Early Environment:~ grew up dirt poor In the movie, there is a flash back were Jay and his family were leaving out of this little shack. From working hard out on the farm he was all dirty with ripped up clothing. Jazz Age Environment:~ became a bootlegger and made bankDuring this time period Gatsby had so much money he didn't know what to do with it. So he bought a 22- bedroom mansion in West Egg. He threw these extravagant parties that would last all night. He had a half a dozen servants and gardeners. Jay Gatsby was a filthy rich man.

Medical Diagnosis

Daisy BuchananJay Gatsby is obsessed with Daisy who he met when he was a young war officer. Gatsby had to leave Daisy behind so he could go off to war. Later on Daisy got married Tom Buchanan, which crushed Gatsby's heart. Jay decided to get a mansion right across the way from Daisy and Tom. He would throw these wild parties hoping one day Daisy would show up. All Mr. Gatsby wanted was the past back with Daisy. Remember the past is the past.

Actions & Behavior

Generous and Soft spoken andFriendly~Jay throws all this parties with a bunch of people. He has lots of friends and comes off very nice. He barely ever talks about his life with people. Takes him awhile to warm up to them.Impatient~Gatsby is always taping his foot and he can not stand when people are late.In the movie when Daisy is late you see Gatsby get angry because she is only a couple minutes late.Temper and Anger~Gatsby loses his temper very easy when Tom keeps antogonizing about his life. Jay Gatsby is diagnosis with Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). OCD is characterized by unreasonable thoughts and fears (obsessions) that lead you to do repetitive behaviors (compulsions). The signs that include Gatsby diagnosis is true are his obsession for Daisy, throwing these endless parties every night, his mansion had to be organized and cleaned, and everything had to be over the top. In the movie Gatsby closet is organized perfectly and his yard is all cut and cleaned. The parties he throws are structured around what Daisy likes, hoping one day she'll come. Jay Gatsby did all this for one reason and that was to win Daisy's heart back.
