Primary vs. Secondary Sources

Primary SourceA primary source is a document or physical object that gives a first hand account of an event. They were written or created during that particular time. Ex: diaries/journals, letters, speeches, film footage, artifacts

Secondary SourcesA secondary source is information that gives a second hand account and was created later by someone who did not experience or participate in the event. Ex: textbooks, newspapers or magazines
