Prewriting
What are prewriting skills?Prewriting skills are the fine motor movements needed to hold a pencil (or any writing instrument) and use it to make controlled marks upon paper.
Prewriting skills are necessary for a child to learn to produce legible handwriting needed for academic success
Many early childhood educators focus on learning to write numbers and letters. However, they neglect to encourage activities that strengthen muscles and build skills needed for the mechanics of writing. Over time this practice makes it more difficult for children to master prewriting skills needed for handwriting.
Current Curriculums do not include instruction on cursive handwriting. This has caused much debate among educators.
