President's Day

President's Day is a national holiday set aside to honor past president's of the United States. It is a holiday that allows us to reflect on those who have served as president of our country and to honor them for their service and contributions.

President's Day was first celebrated in the District of Columbia in 1880. It was originally celebrated as George Washington's birthday on February 22 and was made a federal holiday in 1885. In 1971 congress decided to combine the celebration of Washington's birthday and Abraham Lincoln's birthday (which many people celebrated on February 12) into one federal holiday, President's Day, which is celebrated on the third Monday in February.
