-The cheetah is the world's fastest land mammal. It can run at speeds of up to 70 miles an hour.-Long, muscular hind legs enable snow leopards to leap seven times their own body length in a single leap.-An adult lion's roar can be heard up to five miles away.-Cheetahs do not roar, as the other big cats do. Instead, they purr.
-Bears have two layers of fur. -Bears are very smart. They have been known to roll rocks into bear traps to set off the trap and eat the bait safely. -They can live as long as 30 years in the wild. -Only the polar bear is a true carnivore. All other bears are omnivores. -Bears can run up to 40 miles per hour.
-Wolves are excellent hunters. -They have been found to be living in more places in the world than any other mammal except humans.-A wolf can run at up to about 40 mph.-When hunting alone, wolves catch small animals like squirrels and rabbit. A pack of wolves, however, can hunt very large animals like moose, caribou and yaks.
There are eight species of bears alive today. They range in size from the large brown bears and polar bears, which can weigh as much as 2200 and 1500 pounds, to the much smaller giant pandas and sun bears, which weigh less than 300 pounds.
In the world there are three wolf species: The Gray wolf, Red wolf and Maned wolf. There are also several subspecies that are named based upon the area where they happen to be found. While there are plenty of similarities about these types of wolves, there are also enough differences to separate them. The more research that is done the more those distinct differences are seen.
There are many different species of big cats. Some are the lion, cheeta, leopard, jaguar, cougar, and the tiger. Many big cats are indangered. Big cats are amazing animals, for example, the strongest climber among the big cats, a leopard can carry prey twice its weight up a tree.
