Portugal Immigration
After the large number of immigrants from 1900-1920, there was a huge drop. This decrease was caused by world war I, the depression and the immigration act of 1924. The immigration act of 1924, or Johnson- Reed act, placed strict limits on the number of people who could come into the US. The number of immigrants continued to be low from 1940-1949 due to World War II. The most recent decline was again caused by the decrease in jobs during the recession.
