Smoke is also very harmful to water since it can basically wipe out the ecosystem around it.
In addition, there have been many accidental wildfires, which spread smoke into air, polluting it even further
The air could've been polluted by many factors. For instance, 9/11 could've polluted the air and added more chemicals to it.
The most common air pollutants are: CO, O3, Pb, NO2, PM, SO2
Air Pollution can also be caused by: burning fossil fuels, and the use of household and farming chemicals
Additionally, there were other forms of pollution present in this stream as well. Many plastic soda bottles were found to be carelessly chucked into the stream, and some of the bottles were wide open, meaning that artificially flavored water could've spilled into the stream as well.
During both of our visits to the stream, there was foam floating around. Due to the foam simply being there, it proved that the stream was not quite as healthy as other streams. For instance, the foam must've been generated from some pollution that was already in the stream, such as some bacteria, or other abiotic factors.
Another way a stream could become contaminated is by oil spills.
The most common water pollutants are: Sewage and Waste Water, Septic Tanks, Ocean and Marine Dumping, Underground storage and tube leakages, and atmospheric deposition.
Atmospheric deposition is the pollution of water caused by air pollution. Each time the air is polluted with sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide, they mix with water particles in the air and form a toxic substance. This becomes acid rain, falls to the ground, and gets washed into water bodies. The water bodies then get contaminated, affecting animals and water organisms.
