Takes place in Spain in 1944 during the early Francoist period.It is a story about a young girl named ''Ofelia'', which travels with her sick& pregnated mother to live with her step father ''Captain Vidal'' & father ofthe unborn child her mother carries. Ofelia encounters with a ''fairy'' alongtheir way to the old mill. She begins to fantasize about the fairies & foundsherself in a garden where there was a labyrinth.. She now encounters a faun ''Pan'' who tells her that she's a princess, but must prove her royalty by accomplishing three tasks. If she failed the tasks, she would never prove tobe a ''true'' princess & never see ''the king'', her father, again.
