plate boundaries

Convergent Boundary:There are two types of convergent boundaries.Collision- Two plates with continental crust collide and create mountains.Subduction- Two plates with oceanic crust OR one plate with continental crust and one with oceanic crust move together. The oceanic (older, denser, colder) subducts, or sinks under the other plate. This creates coastal mountains.

Collision

Subduction

Transform Boundary:Where two plates move past each other in opposite directions, creating a fault line.

Transform Boundary

Divergent Boundary

Divergent Boundary:Where two plates move apart. Magma rises from the mantle, reaches the cold ocean, and hardens, creating new crust. This creates rift valleys and mid-ocean ridges.
