Planned Parenthood- Travis Harmon

Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization that provides reproductive and child health care.

It was created in 1921 by Margaret Sanger. It was created to help with birth control. The organization has grown and now supports affordable health care and sex education.

The organization is being cut of the program that finances many family-planning services. The organization lost $17 million in funding.

These cuts would affect parents and may lead to an increase in the birth rate and the number of unwanted births.

These cuts have been met with controversy. On one hand, the cuts may deny access to crucial assistance for some parents. On the other hand, many pro-life activists believe that the government funding they receive helps fund abortions.

This chart represents the spending of Planned Parenthood. The cuts this program received would take 10% of its budget away from it, so it's like taking the "Other Women's Health Services" slice out of the pie chart.

Richard Nixon, who supported the program throughout his presidency, would obviously be against the recent tax cuts, once stating that, "No American woman should be denied access to family planning assistance because of her economic condition."

Rep. Cliff Stearns, who supports the cuts, says, "Taxpayers deserve accountability, and recent undercover videos taken at Planned Parenthood centers demonstrate the egregious abuse of taxpayer funds. These videos show that Planned Parenthood is willing to use public funds to commit a federal crime."

In my opinion, Planned Parenthood should be kept. In the grand scheme of things, Planned Parenthood does not take up a big portion of the national deficit, and the service provides help to many women and kids in need. Obviously, if the spending Planned Parenthood is receiving is being spent in illegal ways, then the spending should be cut. But, until that is proven, Planned Parenthood should continue to receive funding.
