Physical Fitness

What is physical fitness? Physical fitness is the ability of your body systems to carry out your daily activities healthily and effectively without getting sore, tired, or out of breath. There are five parts to physical fitness: muscular strenght, muscular endurance, flexibility, body composition, and cardiorespiratory endurance. What are some benefits to exercising?- improves blood circulation and lessens risks of diseases, therefore you live longer- burns calories, you get stronger (muscles toned, less fat), so it helps control weight- more oxygen for your brain, endorphins are released, and it also reduces stress, so your mood improves

The Five Components of Fitness

5) Cardiorespiratory endurance - the ability of your heart and lungs to work efficiently during physical activity

3) Flexibility - the ability to stretch and twist joints easily. Dancing ballet or doing gymnastic can improve flexibility. It just takes practice and patience!

4) Body composition - compares the weight of fat in your body to the weight of your bones, muscles, and organs. If you are fit and your weight is not too much or too little, your *BMI (Body Mass Index) will range from 18.5-24.9.

2) Muscular endurance - the ability to use a group of muscles repeatedly without getting tired easily. If your friend can do a set of 50 push-ups and you can only do a set of 20, that means your friend has more muscular endurance!

1) Muscular strength - the amount of force muscles apply when they are used

Did You Know? The U.S. Postal Service requires many of its package handlers to be able to lift as much as 70 pounds (31.75 kg)!

Even if it's just walking your dog, it can still be considered as physical exercise!

*BMI: A number calculated from a person's weight and height.
