Photosynthesis

NADP: Carries 2 electrons and a H+

Van Helmont, Priestley, and Ingenhousz contributed to the needed compontents of photosynthesis.

The main particles of the cycle are electrons, H+, and NADP+.

8-3 The Reactions

Photosynthesis uses the energy of sunlight to convert water and carbon dioxide into high-energy sugars and oxygen.

8-2 Overview of Photosynthesis

Autotrophs: Make their own food from sunlight.Heterotrophs: Obain energy by consuming other orgaisms.

ATP is the basic energy source for cells.

Photosynthesis requires light absorbing pigments.

Reactions occur in the chloroplast. The main parts are the thylakoids and stroma.

Calvin Cycle: It uses ATP and NADPH to produce sugars. The main components are 6 carbon dioxide molecules and ADP.

Chlorophyll absorbs light energy and reflects green light waves.

Light Dependent Reactions: Produce oxygen gass and converts ADP and NADPH + into energy carriers ATP and NADPH.

ATP Synthase: Spans the membrane and allows H+ to pass through it

Temperature, amount of water, and light all effect the rate of photosynthesis.
