History of the Periodic Table

What is element #1?

1)The periodic table groups elements in periods, by order of increasing atomic number. This equals the number of protons in the atomic nucleus of each element.

There are 119 elements on the periodic table.

In 1817,Johann Dobereiner-- a German scientist-- found that some elements that were chemically similar could be grouped in threes. In each group the atomic weight of one fell halfway in between the weight of the other two. Dobereiner proposed this as the Law of Triads in 1829. Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev wrote the names of the elements on cards, with their properties. Henry Gwyn--Jeffries Moseley showed that each atomic nucleus could be given a number based on its number of protons. This is what we call the atomic number.
