Emperor Penguins

Emperor Penguins The biggest of all types of penguins, the emperor penguin stands just under 4 feet tall (45 inches). They have black feathers on their backs, wings and head which protect them from predators, such as leopard seals, when seen from above while swimming in the ocean. The feathers on their chests are white to hide the penguins from predators, like killer whales, that are swimming below them in the ocean, since they look like the color of the ice or the bright sun. They also have yellow-orange band that goes from one ear patch to the other across the top of their chest, which distinguishes them from other types of penguins.

I have to travel 50 miles from the ocean to my nesting area. Sometimes I walk; sometimes I slide on my belly!
