-Also known as one of the "Last Great Places" in the Western Hemisphere.-Contains 125,000 acres of land-Contains 158,000 acres od surface water-111 rare species live in the Peconic Bay Estuary-1985: The Peconic Bay Estuary was threatened by human interactions, causing the beautiful water to turn a coffee brown color-Thanks to the constant actions of the community, the bay was miraculously saved by the citizens!-Due to this near-death experience for the bay, the Peconic Estuary program was formed, to restore the estuary to its full glory!

Declared an Estuary of National Significance in 1992, the Peconic Bay Estuary of Long Island, New York, provides over 100 different species of marine wildlife a home and resting ground. This incredibe self- sustaining ecosystem will not only tug on your feelings of love for Nature, but will also enhance your appreciation towards our fragile environment.
