Pearl Harbor
"A Date Which Will Live in Infamy."
With Japan already controlling much of east Asia in the early parts of World War II, the U.S. decided to enact an embargo, cutting off Japan from U.S. oil. Negotiations ensued, but Japan viewed the U.S. fleet as a treat to its vision of a Pacific empire. On the morning of December 7, 1941, the Japanese Navy launched a surprise attack on the U.S. naval fleet at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
