Part 1

I find it a little bit ironic that Pi is named after a swimming pool because more than half the book is about him being in an oversized "swimming pool."

Life of PiPart 1

Pisine Patel

"It was the only pool that made Mamaji fall silent, his memory making too many lengths to mention. Mamaji remebered, Father dreamed. That is how I got my name when I entered this world, a last, welcome addition to my family, three years after Ravi: Piscine Molitor Patel" (14-15).

"But no swimming pool in Mamaji's eyes matched the glory of the Piscine Molitor. It was the crowning aquatic glory of Paris, indeed, of the entire civilized world"(14).

Pi was named after a beautiful swimming pool that Mamaji, a good family friend and one of his father's earliest business contacts, had fallen in love with after years of being a very successful swimmer. Piscine Molitor Patel
