3.Development vs Winning

“Research has shown that approximately 70-75% of children will quit playing a sport by the age of 14.” (Ganzberg 2008 p.1)

Conclusion

The pressuring behaviours consist of excessive expectations, criticizing play or withdrawing love after competition. (Gould et al. 2006).

The youth involved, negatively related parental pressures to enjoyment and continued involvement. (Anderson et al. 2003)

Parents can unknowingly create a stressful sport environment by placing too much emphasis on winning and too much importance on participation. (Gould et al. 1993)

When possession is the focus in the youth system, players become superior in ball control, composure, and decision-making in their later years. (Nadeau, 2016)
