Papyrus: The Basics By Abby Malkove
When? as far back as the fourth millenium B.C.
History:- In the first centuries B.C. and A.D., papyrus coexisted with a material called parchment, which was a product used for similar uses. Parchment was made from animal skins.- The earliest archaeological evidence dates back to 2560-2550 B.C. These particualr scrolls describe the last years of the construction of the Great Pyramid of Giza.
Did you know? The original word papyrus meant "that which belongs to the the house."
Scribes in ancient Egypt would write documents and other records on papyrus.
The Nile Delta was the main source of the plant that grew papyrus.
