Paper Towns

Part IIThe Detective questions Quentin after Margo's parents had reported her missing, however, she is 18, so she is considered a "missing adult", and they must wait time because Margo is old enough to be on her own, and she has ran away before, so the police are giving it time before they make a full investigated search. In Margo's disappearence, she has left clues of her location for Quentin to find, such as a poem, music artists. Lacey, Margo's friend, questions Quentin and says that Margo may be in New York because its the only place she said she could "live a halfway livable life". Quentin later finds a clue when he unscrews his door to an address 34.6 miles away, which leads them to an abandoned strip mall, along with Lacey and his friends Ben and Radar, where they find spray painted on the wall, "YOU WILL GO TO THE PAPER TOWNS AND YOU WILL NEVER COME BACK". Quentin then thinks Margo may have killed herself like the only man when they found when they were young, and they all panic. They later leave and go to prom, but Quentin doesn't because he is too invested in Margo. Quentin returns to the strip mall and finds a blanket that smells like her, and a travel guide. He goes to her house and notices that there are pinhole holes in her wall, so Quentin matches the map to the pinholes and discovers one goes to New York. After research on Paper Towns, he discovers that the town is Algeo and that the population will be one person until noon, so he has twenty-one hours and forty-five minutes to find her, but his car navigation says it will take ninteen. Along with Margo's friend, Lacey, as well as his friends Ben and Radar, the four friends travel in a minivan to find Margo. They discover on a map left by Margo that she was headed to the Paper Town of Algeo, New York.

Part IAs children, Quentin and Margo discovered a dead man's body while playing in the park together, creating a chance for them to bond as childhood friends. Quentin is haunted by dead man when he finds out that the man killed himself, but it doesnt bother Margo as much. As they grow up and enter Highschool, they grow apart. In Highschool, Quentin and his friends, Radar and Ben, are the nerds, while Margo is one of the most popular girls in school. With Prom coming up, Quentin says he doesn't want to go go prom, but he secretly wants to go with Margo. One night, Margo randomly goes to Quentin's room and convinces him to help her get revenge on people at school. They drive around Orlando, Florida, get revenge on Margo's "friends" by doing pranks, such as vandalizing houses, and even shaving Margo's ex-hoyfriend's eyebrown, and break into Sea World. The next morning, Margo disappears, and Quentin is questioned for being the last person to see her before she disappeared.

Digital Storytelling

Paper Towns

“Margo always loved mysteries. And in everything that came afterward. I could never stop thinking that maybe she loves mysteries so much that she became one” (Green 8).

By: John Green

Quentin Jacobson is the protagonist, who goes on an adventure to find the girl he is hopelessly in love with, Margo Roth Spiegelman, after she "becomes a mystery".

"It is easy to forget how full the world is of people, full to bursting, and each of them imaginable and consistently misimagined" (Green 257).

“The town was paper, but the memories were not" (Green 227).

Quentin, Lacey, Ben, and Radar travel to Algeo. Quentin takes his mom's minivan he got as a graduation gift to have. They can only make limited stops at gas stations along the way. They also don't stop just for bathroom breaks, so they bring a lot of bottles. Everyone is tired, so they all begin taking turns sleeping then driving. While driving, construction begins to slow down their trip and they are stuck behind a truck. While Quentin is driving, he is arguing with Ben on why Ben has to lecture him while Lacey and Radar are sleeping, when suddenly there is a cow on the road and Ben pulls the stirring wheel into a ditch. Quentin is bleeding from broken glass, so Lacey tries to stop it with a Confederate Flag they picked up at a gas station. Ben continues driving the group. After twenty-one hours, the group arrives in what would be Algeo, NY where they find Margo's car parked outside an Algeo where they find Margo at a Gerneral Store. She explains to Quentin how she has to leave to find herself because she was tired of being a "Paper Girl" and didn't want to be found. They lie down in the grass, and when Quentin wakes up, Margo is digging a grave for the younger versions of herself and Quentin, as well as her journal. Before leaving, Quentin embraces Margo and kisses her with their eyes open.
