It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child- Pablo Picasso

Before 1901:- born on the 25th October 1881 in Malaogo (Spain)- from earliest childhood: art education from his father and different schools Blue Period ( 1901-1904):- a travel through Spain - Picasso's friend commits suicide-> sparks and inspires Blue Period:-paintings in shades of blue -subject matter: poor people from the street-mood of melancoly, lonelieness and despair

Classicism and Surrealism Period - 1918 to 1945- after World War I: Picasso reverts to traditional styles1920: Surrealism emerges -> Picasso gets influenced by this style1936: Spanish Civil War --> cause of painting "Guernica", probably Picasso's most famous work

Rose Period (1904-1906)-cheerfull bright orange and pink colours- subject matter: circus people, acrobats,..- end of mainly figurative paintings- step in direction of abstract artBlack Period (1906-1909)- a style strongly influenced by African sculpture

Cubism had a huge impact on the world: - provided a different way of seeing- beginning of modern art- major influence of twentieth-century western art- base and influence of many styles of modern art like Futurism and Purism, Dada and Surrealism- strongly influenced all artists pursuing abstraction in Europe, America and Russia

Pablo Picasso...-broke away from tradition, setting his own guide for what he believed was art-started a new style of art, invented Cubism-worked in many different styles of art, that influenced him-was extremly innovative, creative and talented-inspired and strongly influenced many artists after him -impacted his time and the future, how people see art-his paintings sent powerful messages about politics, society, love and peace-his painting and his style made people think about art and it's meaning in a deeper way-was a rare talent in history- did not just reflect his own emotions in his art, but the outside world, as well
