[2015] miles belmont: Outsiders

The Socs are a group on the west side of town. Unlike the Greasers, the Socs are used to fine living and money. They own nice cars, madras, and like to jump people. The Socs wear clothes everyday that the Greasers would only wear to church. One well known Soc is Bob. Bob was killed by Johnny later in the book, but before he was killed he drove a mustand and wore madras. To cap it off, the Socs are more of the finer group in town, but they can still get roudy.

Who are the Socs?

Who are the Greasers?

This story is about two groups that think they're different, and they fight a lot with each other. The main character, Ponyboy, goes through many bad times with his brothers. In the end, he realizes that the two groups are very much alike.

The Greasers are the group that live in the east side of town. They are known as the downclass group. They have little money, and the only way the can get stuff is to steal it. They like to wear leather jackets and get into fights. One of the Greasers is Ponyboy. Pony is 13 years old, loves his brothers, and gets into trouble. He is known as the tag-along kind of guy, smokes with his brothers, and got jumped by the Socs once. In the end, the Greasers are the "gang" members, who like to fight and steal.

What do they do?

What do they do?

One Soc named Cherry, met the Greaser gang at a drive in movie. Cherry has red hair and drives a Corvette. She obviously has alot of money. Cherry is considered one of those people that stick up for themselves for any reaseon at all. For example, at the drive in movie Dally offered Cherry and her friend Marcia a coke. Marcia gladly accepted it while Cherry threw it in his face.

One Greaser named Johnny, killed a Soc named Bob. He wouldn't have killed him if Bob hadn't been drowning Ponyboy in the fountain. Because Johnny killed Bob he had to go hide in an abandoned church on top of Jay Mountain. Dally told Johnny and Pony that it was safe there and that they wouldn't have to worry about the police catching them.

S.E. Hinton (Susan Eloise Hinton) was born in 1950 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Outsiders was published in 1967, when Hinton was only 17 years old.
