Our Environment

-About 1.5 million species of animals have been named and described by scientists -Poaching, habitat loss and climate change are the three main threats to endangered animals -Direct Distruction is the hunting and capturing of animals for un-necessary purposses. Examples-Hunting for entertainment purposes and animal trade

Example of an endangered animal. Name: Spectacled Bear Status: Vulnerable Population Trend: Decreasing Interesting Fact: This bear gets its home from a yellowish mask which makes it appear to be wearing a pair of spectacles

-The most common cause of plant habitat loss is conversion of native plant habitat to cities, farms, roads, and regulated flow river systems and reservoirs. -Human settlement has changed plant habitats through fire, suppression, intoduction of aggressive weeds, recreational use and natural resource extraction

-Disease organisms and predators are not documented as casual agents in the decline of rare plant species because when other organisms are implicated as reasons for decline, they are usually non-native pathogens or invertebrates that have not co-evolved with our native plants -

-Loss of dispersal agents and pollinators affect the plants by them not being able to reproduce and grow properly.

-With overpopulation comes mass agriculture, deforestation, over development, pesticide use and global warming -Local, regional, national or global are the four catagories that wildlife conservation societies fall under

The three different groups that wildlife environmentalists fall into dark, light and bright green. Light greens see protecting the environment as a personal responsibility. Dark green believe that environmental problems are an inherent part of industrialized capitalism and they seek radical political change. Bright greens believe that radical changes are needed however new technologies and social innovations are the means to make those changes

Wild conservation is the science of analyzing and protecting the earth's biological diversity, which is the variation of life forms within a given ecosystem, or for the entire earth
