Ottoman Empire 1st block

The Ottoman Empire was the one of the largest and longest lasting Empires in history.It was an empire inspired and sustained by Islam, and Islamic institutions. The Ottoman's replaced the Byzantine Empire as the major power in the Eastern Mediterranean.


Regained strength under the power of Muhammad I.Ottomans had advanced military organization and tactics for their time.


Ottoman conquests allowed them to control many ports and sole access to the Black Sea, therefore, trade among the provinces were increased greatly. The empire's power was always centralized by one person, never split between rival princes. The Sultan(ruler) was always refferred to as "the protector of Islam"


Religion was incorporated into the state structure. Ottoman's were religiously tolerant of people of the non Islamic faith.

Decline and Fall

The Ottoman's fall started rapidily after the Russia-Turkish Wars, which led to several treaties that during that time, caused the empire to lose some of its economical power. From then on, the Ottoman's never stopped losing power, until the World War I. The empire was officially ended with the Treaty of Sevres.
