Oswald Avery
Transformation Principle
Griffith DId an experiment to make the r strain of the pneumococcus into an s strain of pneumococcus.
About ExperimentIn a very simple experiment, Oswald Avery's group showed that DNA was the "transforming principle." When isolated from one strain of bacteria, DNA was able to transform another strain and confer characteristics onto that second strain. DNA was carrying hereditary information. With DNA as the hereditary molecule, the stage was set for one of the most exciting periods in DNA science: understanding DNA structure and function.
Griffith's Experment
American physician best known for identifying DNA as the material that made up genes and chromosomes (the Avery–MacLeod–McCarty experiment). He attended Colgate University and went on to study medicine at the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. He opened his first practice in 1907.
