Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey represents the American Dream because despite the difficulties that she faced in childhood, she utilized her opportunities which have made it possible for her to become the successful and wealthy woman that she is today.

Oprah's mother wanted to improve her life, so her mother left Oprah with her grandma in Kosciusko, Mississippi and became one of the many African Americans who moved to northern cities between 1900-1960.

Oprah moved to her mothers home in Milwaukee when her grandma became too ill to care for her. Unfortunately Oprah wasn't satisfied with her living conditions, she began to demonstrate self destructive behavior and before anyone could put a stop to her she was a pregnant teen who struggled in school. Her mother decided to move Oprah back to live with her father in Nashville.
