Exxon Valdez Oil SpillThe Exxon Valdez Oil Spill occured in Prince Willian Sound, Alaska on March 24, 1989 when an oil tanker crossed the Sound, trying to get to California, struck a reef and broke part of the lower haul.Only 10% of the oil was actually cleaned up. 250,000 seabirds, 2,800 sea otters, 22 orcas and almost 250 bald eagles were injured or killed in the spill. Trillions of plankton were also killed leaving many larger animals nothing to eat which lead to more deaths.The Exxon Oil Spill was one of the worst spills on American ocean for almost 10 years.
