Nutria are medium sized rat look alikes that live in freshwater environments.They came from South America. Nutria can grow up to 40 inches from its nose to its tail. They weigh from 12 to 40 pounds and are herbivores.

The nutria came from the South. They where introduced into Washington by being sold to fur farmers.
Nutria are not good for Washington because they destroy about ten times more plant matter than they eat. Nutria have been known to turn riparian areas into muddy bogs, destroying marshes that provide protection for flooding and habit for other animals, birds, and fish.
