Multiplication is a way of adding a number to itself a number of timesMultiplication is the same as repeated addition. When you multiply numbers you use the multiplication sign (*)

When you are multiplying numbers together it doesnt matter what order you use. Multiplication is a quicker method of repeated addition. With repeated addition it doesnt matter in what order you add up the numbers

The basic idea of multiplication is repeated addition.For example: 5 × 3 = 5 + 5 + 5 = 15But as well as multiplying by whole numbers, you can also multiply by fractions or decimals.For example 5 × 3½ = 5 + 5 + 5 + (half of 5) = 17.5

Problem: Alicia owes $6 to each of 4 friends. How much money does she owe?Solution: The problem above can be solved using integers.Owing $6 is represented by 6. Thus the problem becomes: 6 *4 = 24So Alicia owes $24. Let's look at some more examples of multiplication.

The Best TrickEvery multiplication has a twin, which may be easier to remember. For example if you forget 8×5, you might remember 5×8. This way, you only have to remember half the table.
