The Northwest Coast Indians lived in big rectangular houses that many people could live in. The roofs of these houses were gable shaped. The house was made out of cedar wood again showing how these indians used surroundings.
Northwest Coast Indians used many tools, like stone wedges, stone headed sledge hammers, thin boards, ropes, needles, and stone knives. The wood from the Cedar tree was also a very common and useful supply the Natives used.
Thick forests of Fir, Spruce, and Cedar trees covered the territory of the Northwest Coast tribes. There were also many rugged mountains and mountain ranges. The weather was usually cool, rainy, and rainforest like.
The Northwest Coast indians used many different types of materials for crafts and clothing. Some of the common materials included beads, feathers, wood, leather, and cotton. Fine jewelry and carving statues or totum poles from wood were two crafts they were known for. For clothing they mainly wore cowichan sweaters and leather aprons, but during warmer weather women only wore the aprons and the men would not wear anything.
Artwork of the Northwestern tribes were verry similar to our ancestors in the polynesian islands. There were also a minimum of 22 different tribes in the Northwestern territory.
