In chapter 1, page 4, Ellie's father asks him why he prays and Ellie replies, "Why did I pray? A strange question. Why did I live? Why did I breathe?"This evidence shows how much Ellie depends his life on omnipotent God and how he cannot live without his celestial power.
Text Evidence
In chapter 5, page 59, one of the prisoner's said, "I've got more faith in Hitler than in anyone else. He's the only one who's kept his promises, all his promises, to the Jewish people."This shows how much of the Jewish people have changed their beliefs and religion and began to rely on something else. Causing Ellie to question his own.
In chapter 3, page 25-26, Ellie says, "Never shall I forget those mometns which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust."This evidence shows how Ellie's faith has been destroyed and his belief in the benevolent God is getting smaller.
In chapter 8, page 81, Ellie says, "There were no prayers at his grave. No candles were lit to his memory." when talking about his father's death. This evidence shows how much Ellie, and almost all Jewish people have completely lost in their belief and faith of their God
