Defintion- Nicotine produces effects that change your brain to temporarily feel pleasure- This pleasure makes you want to keep using, and leads to dependency - Stopping the inflow of nicotine can cause withdrawal, anxiety, and irratibilty

Symptoms- Unable to stop using tobacco- Withdrawal symptoms occur when attempting to quit- Continued use even with health problems- Given up social or recreational activity for use

Treatment- Counseling, NRT, antidepressant medications, behavioral training, group therapy, hypnosis, and quitting cold turkey
Causes- The intake of nicotine causes the release of neurotransmitters in the brain, which regulate mood and behavior - Dopamine, a neurotransmitter, is released and improves mood and pleasure- Experiencing these effects is what makes the nicotine in the tobacco addicting
